Every year, your business could change. Whether that is a price change, service offerings or even photos, all of these need to be reflected accurately on your website. It is not advised to create a disconnect or mistrust the first time your clients start using your services, even if it's all by accident. Many new customers use their research before entering a business or using your services, so they will be checking out your website and if what is mentioned on your website is not matching the current service in person, that could turn away customers. That is why it is imperative that you keep your website current and updated regularly, whether it's for SEO or not. I've created a checklist below to help you with SEO tips. - Do you have Google Search Console connected to your website? If so, get your website (or domain) connected to Google Search Console right away to see a list of queries and any web hacking issue notifications from Google. It’s free to sign up with Google Search Console and connect to your domain.
- Does your website have web tracking? If so, which do you use? If you do not have web tracking yet, then Pismo Web recommends installing a Google Analytics code to your website to get web tracking right away. That way, you can see traffic and reports for your website.
- What are/were the top key words or phrases that users search for to find your website? Let’s focus on creating more content around that and grow it.
- What is your current meta description and keywords? You can find this from logging into your website or going on web developer tools on your browser. Especially now with Gemini AI results, AI does look at this to determine what kind of website and business you have.
- After reviewing the current meta description and keywords, analyze what needs to change.
- I encourage finding other businesses that you can network and trust to refer to each other’s website. - Once you have a storefront or office space, index that office/store address with your business on Google Maps/Google Business List so that your company’s website can get further indexed and found by Google Maps. This also creates an opportunity for your current and future clients to give you a review (hopefully all great), which helps gain consumer trust. If you use a coworking space, this can be tricky and may not be appropriate for you, depending on your workspace. However, if you have a static space with a unique suite # or virtual office #, this could work. We don’t recommend using your house address for this to separate your home from your business, as you may get unsolicited knocks on your door.
- Even though this can be tedious, I recommend adding alt tags to all of your images with related top keywords for your industry that are useful to your services and the search engines. There are many resources on the web on how to add alt tags, but if you don’t have the time, you can pay a consulting fee to Pismo Web LLC and we’d be happy to help you with this, as long as you provide the website log-in so that we may do this on your behalf.
- If you are comfortable with managing your website with your website log-in and DNS records, I encourage you do Items A - H right away. Create Your Website Yourself With the Following Recommendations
If you've never built a website of your own before, I recommend using a CMS (Content Management System) to create a website. Examples of a content management system (CMS) include Wordpress (I recommend using Hostinger to host but using Wordpress interface), Wix, Drupal, Square (for online store) with Weebly, and Yola. You can get a domain (your website name that starts with www.) from any of the Content Management Systems above, which makes it easier or if you want to use Godaddy or a different domain purchasing company to buy your domain first, you can do that too and then change the DNS to point to the servers of the CMS. Get a website or blog domain for $5. You can check if the domain name you'd like to get is still available.
